Labour Party Presidential Candidate Condemns Government Demolition of Properties

Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has condemned the recent demolition of properties by the government, stating that it will only increase the hardship faced by citizens already battling with poverty in the country. In his view, governments should be more compassionate and considerate of the people, even if they have violated laws concerning the erection of buildings.

Obi expressed his concerns on his social media account on Thursday, at a time when the Lagos government was demolishing structures that were “illegally built” in certain areas of the state. He believes that instead of such actions, governments should focus on implementing measures aimed at alleviating the hardship experienced by citizens and taking more people out of poverty.

While acknowledging that there may be some violations, Obi insists that this is not the right time for such exercises, knowing the current economic strain in the country. The poor who are already struggling to make ends meet with their little resources should not be burdened further. In some instances, the buildings being demolished are the lifetime investments and retirement homes of aged and incapacitated individuals. Therefore, he urges the respective governments involved in these demolitions to show compassion and put a human face to their actions, even as sensible regulations are enforced.

  1. A nice one from His Excellency.
What is being played in Nigeria is a baboon type of politics, anchored by very insensitive and myopic individuals.
God will eventually save the country one day.
