Enugu state 2024 budget

The Enugu State 2024 budget estimate of ₦521.6bn has scaled through the second reading at the State House of Assembly. It seems like a significant milestone for the current assembly, as the leader of the House mentioned during the plenary. The budget, titled Budget of Disruptive Economic Growth, reflects the commitment of Governor Peter Mbah and his administration to transform the economic and social development of the state.

It’s interesting to note that the capital expenditure is higher than recurrent expenditure, indicating a focus on infrastructure development and investment in key sectors. The provision for the construction of 260 Smart schools and Type II Primary Health Centre (PHC) shows a commitment to improving education and healthcare services in the state.

However, there are concerns raised by some lawmakers regarding the ambitious nature of the budget and the revenue generation capacity of the state. It’s important for the budget to be critically examined to ensure its feasibility and alignment with the state’s financial capabilities.

Furthermore, there have been calls for adequate allocation to the House of Assembly and attention to existing PHCs instead of building new ones. Additionally, the provision of shelter for women who are victims of gender-based violence is an important consideration that some lawmakers have highlighted.

The Speaker of the House has urged the various committees to conduct budget defense, and it is expected that the budget will be passed before the end of the year.

Overall, it seems like a significant step towards the economic and social development of Enugu State, and I hope that the budget is implemented effectively to benefit the people of the state.
