Governor Akeredolu takes a bow to the great beyond
According to a family source, Akeredolu passed away in Lagos on Wednesday. It was reported that he was under the care of State House doctors until his demise as he was unable to travel abroad for treatment. The source revealed, “They were trying to arrange for dialysis machines to be delivered to his undisclosed location in Lagos last week.” Akeredolu was 67 years old and had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany. Recently, he embarked on another leave following a directive from President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Aiyedatiwa has been serving as Acting Governor during his absence. Akeredolu had attempted to govern the state from Ibadan, Oyo State capital, after his return to Nigeria in September, which prompted public outcry. Furthermore, on July 9, Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, announced the suspension of her 70th birthday celebration activities due to unforeseen circumstances related to her husband’s health. She conveyed the message via Twitter, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.
