President Tinubu set to commission Prof. Barth Nnaji’s 188MW Geometric Power Plant in Aba

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the 188MW Geometric Power plant located in the Osisioma industrial area of Aba, Abia state. The project, with an estimated cost of over $800 million, was constructed by Nigeria’s renowned professor of robotics, Professor Barth Nnaji, with assistance from the AfriExim bank. Upon completion, the power plant will provide electricity to Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest distribution company, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to nine out of the 17 local government areas in Abia State.

According to the management of Geometric Power, this project will primarily benefit businesses and individuals in Aba and its surroundings. However, the impact will extend beyond the region, with the potential to enhance power availability in other parts of the country. Engineer Cliff Eneh, a Lagos-based energy consultant and former senior manager at the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), expressed that the power generated by the Geometric Power plant will not only meet the needs of Aba but also be transmitted to other cities, towns, and villages, thus bolstering power accessibility nationwide. He also believes that the consistent and reliable electricity supply in Aba will compel other electricity firms, particularly distribution companies, to enhance their services in response to this significant development.
