IPOB Clarifies Involvement in Abia Soldiers’ Killing

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have addressed the recent incident in Abia, where five soldiers were killed at a military check-point, unveiling their stance and disassociating themselves from the violent attack.

IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, conveyed in a statement that the organization unequivocally refutes any involvement in the assault, instead pointing fingers at politicians as the instigators behind the tragic act.

He emphasized that the individuals accountable for the assault are affiliated with political motives, asserting, “Those behind the recent attack on the military checkpoint in Aba are connected to politics.”

Powerful further cautioned Governor Alex Otti to remain vigilant against potential troublemakers targeting Aba, aiming to incite unrest within the state.

Stressing the organization’s commitment to peaceful commemoration, Powerful reiterated, “The perpetrators who attacked the military were not affiliated with IPOB. We were deeply engaged in honoring our fallen heroes during the sit-at-home event, not orchestrating an attack.”

Condemning the criminal behavior witnessed, he clarified, “IPOB distances itself from the disturbance and bloodshed that occurred on May 30, 2024. Any insinuation linking IPOB to the assault on the military in Aba is unfounded and misled.”

Concurrently, the Abia State Government announced a reward of N25 million for information leading to the perpetrators responsible for the tragic incident at Obikabia Junction, Ogbor Hill.

Affirming its dedication to security and peace, the government expressed deep condolences to the Chief of Army Staff and the entire military structure affected by the unfortunate event. Additionally, measures have been enacted to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and businesses within the state, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities promptly for swift action and resolution.
