People of Biafra urge South-East governors to terminate all power contracts with the EEDC
The Indigenous People of Biafra has urged South-East governors to terminate all power contracts with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, citing it as a hindrance to the region’s development.
In a statement released on Monday, the spokesperson for the pro-Biafran group, Emma Powerful, criticized the EEDC for its inability to deliver reliable and affordable electricity that is crucial for the economic progress of the South East. Allegations were made that the company engages in extortion practices without providing satisfactory electricity services to the people.
The statement emphasized the need for South-East governors to explore alternative electricity providers under the current deregulation policy initiated by President Bola Tinubu’s government. The group called for a stronger commitment from the governors to ensure consistent and affordable power supply in the region, highlighting electricity as a vital catalyst for economic growth that should not be compromised.
Furthermore, IPOB warned against potential electricity cutoffs by EEDC and urged individuals in the South East to resist any such actions. The group stressed the importance of governors taking responsibility for securing stable electricity in the region to facilitate progress and development.
We await response from EEDC Media and Communications Manager Mr. Emeka Ezeh.
