Senator Ned Nwoko Advocates for the Establishment of Anioma State as the 6th South East State

Senator Ned Nwoko has called for the establishment of Anioma State as the sixth state within the South East geopolitical zone, with the objective of achieving balanced representation and equitable resource allocation. The proposed new state would encompass nine local government areas, six of which are known for their abundant oil and gas reserves.

In advocating for this initiative, Nwoko highlighted the current underrepresentation of the South East in the senate, with only 15 lawmakers compared to 18 from other regions. He stressed that the creation of Anioma State is not solely about increasing the number of states but about fostering fairness and parity in governance and resource sharing.

The proposal has garnered significant support from various stakeholders, including the Anioma socio-cultural group, Izu Anioma, Ohanaeze Indi Igbo, traditional leaders, and members of the political community. Senator Nwoko’s bill seeks to rectify past oversights and establish Anioma State, thus addressing the longstanding inequities within the South East region.
