Herdsmen suspected in deadly attack on Enugu farmer, community left Reeling

Terror gripped the Agu-Amede autonomous community in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, as suspected herdsmen killed a farmer, Francis Odoh. According to community sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday when Odoh was found dead near his farm. This latest attack has reignited fear and apprehension in the community, which has faced numerous attacks in the past.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows residents mourning uncontrollably at the deceased’s home. Chief Ogenyi Odo, a prominent community member, stated, “Odoh went to his farm on Tuesday morning but failed to return. A search party was formed, and his lifeless body was found on Wednesday morning near his farmland, close to where Fulani herdsmen have occupied land. We suspect the herdsmen were behind his gruesome murder.”
Chief Odo added, “Many lives have been lost to herdsmen attacks in our community and neighboring areas, as they seek to drive us out and occupy our land.”
SaharaReporters attempted to contact the Enugu State Police Command but were unsuccessful. DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson, did not answer calls or respond to a message.
This incident follows a previous attack on January 23, 2024, when suspected herdsmen invaded Imamamaru village, killing two villagers and injuring several others. The assailants also burned four houses. Similar attacks occurred in Isiado village, leaving two dead and forcing residents to flee their homes.
