Edo Guber: PDP Alleges Irregularity, Accuses INEC Officer of Fraud

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over a suspected case of electoral irregularity in the ongoing Edo state governorship election. In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the PDP called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and prosecute Presiding Officer Obozuwa Josephine for allegedly allocating “non-existent” votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Discrepancy in Polling Unit Results: Osholo Primary School Polling Unit, Weppa, Etsako East Local Government Area showed 213 accredited voters, but 352 votes were allocated to APC, 52 to PDP, and 1 to LP, totaling 406 votes cast- Alleged Fraud: Obozuwa Josephine allegedly allocated unearned votes to APC, exceeding accredited voters.

The PDP likened this incident to the 2023 Adamawa State Governorship election controversy involving former Resident Electoral Commissioner Mallam Hudu Ari.

Free and Fair Elections

According to Mrs yomi Mavis Nigerians have lost faith in the possibility of free and fair elections in the country, with many believing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has become expert manipulators. This skepticism stems from a history of electoral irregularities and malpractices, including vote rigging, intimidation, and violence, the lack of transparency and accountability in the electoral process has eroded trust in INEC’s ability to conduct credible polls.

To restore faith in Nigeria’s electoral process, INEC must prioritize transparency, accountability, and fairness.
