A Monument to Progress: Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu Unveils Magnificent Classroom Block at Coal Camp Primary School
A wave of excitement still sweeps through the Coal Camp community in Enugu State following the commissioning of a constructed block of six classrooms at Coal Camp Primary School by Honourable Chimaobi Sam Atu, the dynamic Member of the House of Representatives representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency.
The project, executed under the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), stands as a testament to Atu’s unwavering commitment to education and community development.
The commissioning ceremony, held amidst cheers from pupils, teachers, and residents, marked the fulfillment of a key campaign promise made by Atu during the 2023 elections. Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker emphasized the critical role of primary education as the bedrock of a prosperous future.
“This project is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about building the minds of our children, who are the leaders of tomorrow,” Atu declared. “The time for politics is over—now is the time to deliver good governance and keep the promises we made.”
The new classroom block, a modern facility designed to enhance learning conditions, replaces outdated and dilapidated structures that had long hindered educational progress in the area.
Atu urged leaders across Nigeria to prioritize investment in primary education, stating, “Nothing beats securing the future of our children. This is the foundation upon which every successful society is built.”
Community leaders, educators, and parents, have all lauded Atu for his transformative leadership. Mrs. Ngozi Eze, a teacher at the school, expressed her gratitude: “This is a dream come true for us. Our pupils now have a conducive environment to learn, and we owe it to Hon. Atu’s dedication.”
Similarly, a parent, Mr. Chukwudi Okeke, noted, “He has brought hope to our children and shown that he truly cares for the common man.”
Beyond this milestone, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu’s tenure has been marked by a remarkable string of achievements since he assumed office in June 2023.
Elected under the Labour Party banner after defeating a three-term incumbent, Atu has redefined representation with his grassroots approach and tangible results. His first 100 days alone saw the submission of 13 bills to the National Assembly, including initiatives to establish a Federal Medical Centre and a School of Skills Acquisition in his constituency. His legislative efforts also extend to national issues, such as advocating for the revival of Nigeria’s coal industry and youth empowerment through sports and technology.
Atu’s commitment to infrastructure is equally commendable. From grading rural roads to installing solar streetlights in communities like Ugwuaji and Amechi, he has illuminated both literal and figurative pathways for his constituents. The recent launch of strategic roads in Ugwuaji, such as the Ayo Station-Ndiagu-Obeagu link road, has boosted local economies and earned him widespread praise. His vigilant oversight ensures that contractors adhere to high standards, reflecting his resolve to deliver nothing short of excellence.
The Chimaobi Sam Atu Foundation (CSAF), founded by the lawmaker, continues to uplift lives through scholarships, healthcare initiatives, and youth programs like the Under-15 Tournament. His recent Excellent Service Award from Men of Light Media House in January 2025 further underscores his reputation as a servant-leader par excellence.
As the crowd dispersed from today’s event, the sentiment was clear: Hon. Atu is not just a politician but a beacon of hope for Enugu North and South. “He builds the society, not himself,” said a local elder, echoing a growing consensus that history will indeed be kind to this son of Umumba Ndiaga Ugwuaji—a former bus driver turned real estate developer who has risen to become a champion of the people.
