Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Nkechi Nweje: Tributes Pour In
The Nigerian film industry is grieving the untimely death of veteran actress, Nkechi Nweje, who passed away at the age of 60 after a brief illness.
Reports from family sources, friends and close colleagues reveal that her death was due to complications from a stomach surgery she underwent in November, 2024.
Known for her captivating performances in films like Royal War, Festival of Sorrow, and Coming Back from Congo, Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha, Nweje was a cherished figure in Nollywood.
Her colleagues have expressed their shock and sorrow over her passing. Movie producer Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, who announced her death, shared an emotional tribute, calling her his “best friend” and recalling their last conversation during the “Queenth saga”. Actress Rita Edochie mourned her loss with a poignant Instagram post, stating, “This world is really not our home”. Destiny Etiko and Chizzy Alichi also joined in paying tribute, with Alichi describing Nweje as her “ever-smiling, happy mama”.
