Federal Government Announces Plans To Shut Down Independence Bridge For Maintenance Starting April 1

The Federal Government has revealed plans to close the Independence Bridge, a key route heading toward Marina, for critical repairs and upgrades beginning April 1. The closure, expected to last until May 31, 2025, aims to ensure the long-term safety of the heavily trafficked structure.

In a statement released Monday, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, confirmed the decision, urging drivers to brace for changes. “This closure will disrupt normal flow for those traveling from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku toward Marina, Eko Bridge, and the Onikan area near Zone 2,” she noted.

Kesha encouraged motorists to map out alternate routes to minimize delays during the two-month repair window. “We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but it’s a necessary step to maintain our infrastructure,” she added, expressing gratitude for public patience.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among commuters, with some welcoming the overdue maintenance and others dreading the inevitable gridlock. The government has promised to expedite the project while keeping safety first.
