Makurdi, Benue State

In a shocking incident that has fear in the hearts of many, the lifeless bodies of eight policemen, earlier declared missing following a deadly attack on security operatives at Agu Centre on the border of Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas of Benue State, have been recovered.

Dr. Justin Shaku, Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, disclosed this tragic development to reporters in Makurdi on Monday. The officers were part of a security team ambushed in a violent assault at Agu Centre, a volatile area known for recurring clashes. The attack left the region in shock, with initial reports confirming casualties but no trace of the eight missing policemen until their bodies were found.

Dr. Shaku, addressing the press, confirmed the recovery of the officers’ remains after an extensive search operation in the dense bush around Agu Centre. “It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the recovery of the bodies of our eight policemen,” he stated. The chairman did not provide further details on the condition of the bodies or the circumstances of their deaths, pending ongoing investigations.

The ambush, which occurred along the Katsina-Ala-Ukum border, underscores the persistent insecurity in Benue State, where armed attacks have claimed numerous lives, including those of security personnel. The recovered officers are yet to be publicly identified, and arrangements are underway to support their families.

Authorities have vowed to pursue the perpetrators, with increased security measures expected in the region to prevent further violence. The incident has renewed calls from community leaders for stronger federal intervention to address the escalating crisis in Benue State.
