Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa Admonishes Christians to Uphold Good Morals as He Celebrates First Church Service

St. Simon’s Anglican Church, Nnentu Ngwa, in the Diocese of Aba, was filled with joy and praises on Sunday as the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, and his wife, Lady Uchechi Emeruwa, joined congregants to mark the first Sunday service of the new year. The Speaker, representing Aba South State Constituency, used the occasion to express gratitude to the church for nominating him for the prestigious Knighthood of St. Christopher (KSC).

Addressing the congregation, Emeruwa emphasized the importance of worshipping God with one’s resources, stressing that true wealth comes from God and enriches without sorrow. He highlighted the vital role of choir ministration in church growth, describing choristers as the “life wire” of any progressive church. He assured the choir that the robes he promised last year would be ready before Easter, underscoring his commitment to enhancing choral activities in his home parish.

In a gesture that elicited thunderous applause, the Speaker made a significant financial donation towards the construction and installation of two giant gates for the church premises. He also thanked God for guiding everyone safely through the challenges of the previous year. Earlier, Lady Uchechi Emeruwa urged women to remain dedicated and committed Christians, shunning societal distractions that could weaken their faith, while praying for God to grant the congregation their heart’s desires.

The service featured a sermon by the Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Canon Ahamefula Nwozi, who drew from Matthew 2:11 to remind worshipers to adore Jesus Christ as King of Kings, Redeemer, and Saviour despite His humble birth and crucifixion. The first service of 2026 concluded with special intercessory prayers for the Speaker, his wife, the state government, and New Year blessings for all.
