APC Sweeps FCT Councils, PDP Clinches Lone Victory in Gwagwalada

Abuja, Nigeria l

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a decisive victory in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, winning five of the six chairmanship positions contested across the FCT. The outcome of the polls further strengthens the ruling party’s grip on grassroots governance in the nation’s capital.

Results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that the APC emerged victorious in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abaji, Bwari, Kuje and Kwali Area Councils. The elections were held on Saturday across the territory amid security presence and voter turnout described by officials as moderate.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, avoided a total sweep as its candidate won the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship, marking the party’s only success in the exercise. PDP leaders in the council hailed the result as a reflection of local acceptance, despite the party’s broader setback in the FCT.

INEC officials said the elections were conducted in line with established guidelines, adding that results were declared after collation at designated centres. While the APC celebrated what it described as a vote of confidence by residents, observers expect reactions and possible legal challenges from opposition parties in the coming days as the political dust settles.
