Wike Performed Wonders in FCT Election – Oshiomhole Hails

Abuja

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has openly praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as an impressive political outing in the recent Federal Capital Territory area council elections, saying Wike “performed wonders” that translated into electoral success for the ruling party.

Oshiomhole, speaking against the backdrop of the APC’s strong showing at the polls, attributed the outcome to Wike’s political dexterity, grassroots mobilisation and firm control of the political structure in the FCT. He argued that the results reflected strategic leadership and effective coordination, insisting that the electorate rewarded performance and political inclusiveness.

However, the phrase “performed wonders” has stirred public debate, with critics and opposition figures insinuating that such an overwhelming outcome raises familiar questions that have trailed past elections in Nigeria. Some observers say the speed, scale and pattern of victories have been perceived by sections of the public as suggestive of electoral malpractices, especially when viewed through the lens of previous contests where allegations of undue influence, state power and compromised processes were common.

While no official body has declared the FCT election flawed, opposition parties and civil society groups have continued to urge electoral authorities to ensure transparency and accountability. For now, Wike’s role remains a subject of both commendation and controversy, highlighting Nigeria’s enduring tension between political success, public perception and trust in the electoral process.
