APC Officially Welcomes Adamawa Gov. Finitri
YOLA, Adamawa State
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally welcomed the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, following his defection from the opposition People’s Democratic Party. The ruling party confirmed the development on Friday, describing the governor’s decision as a major political boost ahead of future electoral contests.
Governor Fintiri announced his defection during a statewide address, saying the move was taken after wide consultations with political stakeholders and based on what he described as the need to align Adamawa more closely with the federal government. He disclosed that several top government officials, party leaders, and grassroots supporters moved with him into the APC.
In a statement by the party leadership, the All Progressives Congress described the governor’s entry as a “strategic and welcome development,” noting that it would strengthen governance, unity, and development efforts in the North-East. Party leaders praised Fintiri’s political experience and expressed confidence that his presence would consolidate the APC’s structure in the state.
The defection marks a significant shift in Adamawa’s political landscape, where the PDP has traditionally enjoyed strong support. Political observers say the move could trigger further realignments in the state, as attention now turns to how opposition parties will respond and how the new political arrangement will reshape governance and upcoming elections.
