Professional is the new NNPCL says professor Bart Nnaji

Professor Bart Nnaji, a prominent figure in the energy industry and former Minister of Power, praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for its professional management. He highlighted the transformation of the NNPCL into a well-run entity similar to efficient private sector organizations. During a meeting with executives from his company, Geometric Power Ltd, and their investment partners from Turkey, Professor Nnaji commended the professionalism exhibited by the new NNPCL leadership. He emphasized that the NNPCL is operating with the same level of expertise as established international energy companies like Shell, TotalEnergies, and ExxonMobil.

Geometric Power Ltd, owned by Nnaji’s GPL, is set to receive natural gas supplies from the NNPCL for its power plant in Aba, Abia State. The partnership between NNPCL and Heirs Holding Company will facilitate the operation of the Oil Mining Licence (OML) 17 oil field. This collaboration aims to enhance local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, following the transfer of the operational rights from the Shell Petroleum Development Company to the NNPC.

Ogbonna Chukwueke, a former Shell executive, highlighted the need to upgrade the gas gathering infrastructure to ensure high-quality gas supply to the Geometric Power plant in Aba. This enhancement is crucial for providing uninterrupted power supply to several local government areas in Abia State. Although the technical commissioning of the Aba Power plant is pending, sources from both NNPCL and Geometric Power confirmed its scheduled official launch next month.

Professor Nnaji expressed confidence in the potential of NNPCL to become a globally respected state-owned enterprise, citing the dedication and professionalism of its technical personnel at OML 17. He also emphasized the importance of personal integrity in the Nigerian business environment. In response, Mehmmet Okay, a member of the KSE team from Turkey, acknowledged the challenges facing Nigeria and the significance of partnering with Geometric Power based on the recommendation of General Electric, a reputable global electricity equipment manufacturing company.
